Housing and Human Settlements

The Affordable Housing Programme has several projects that use policy and action research, advocacy, delivery and demonstration to achieve its goals. The strategic focus areas of the programme are on land value capture, economic development, and job creation and action research on public rental, social housing, and emergency. It is also envisaged to develop eco-housing demonstration projects.

The programme is comprised by two main sub-programmes. The first one is "Community Driven Housing" that is currently operating in three main geographic areas namely Khayelitsha, Masimanyane and Philippi and its surrounding area. It focusses on PHP construction. The second one is "Human Settlements Projects", such as the latest project whereby DAG is exploring 25 informal settlements for NUSP in order to develop a best practice strategy for informal settlement upgrades.
